Playing Flaming Fox - First Impressions
Flaming Fox is a kung-fu themed video slot from Red Tiger Gaming, launched back in 2018. It runs on 5 reels and 3 rows, and wins pay both ways across the paylines, which I noticed straight away made a difference to how often combinations landed. The backdrop is a dojo with a meditating fox who springs to life when you hit a win - genuinely good animations, not the lazy kind you see in lesser slots.
The sound design deserves a mention. That background music properly sets the tone - it actually feels like you are sitting in a martial arts training hall. Red Tiger have been acquired by Evolution since this game came out, and you can tell from the production quality why they got snapped up. Bet range runs from 0.20 up to 20, so it covers most budgets.

Flaming Fox Symbols and Paytable
There are 10 regular symbols in Flaming Fox. The low payers are your standard card values - 10, J, Q, K and A. The premium symbols are themed around the martial arts setting: paws (x40 for five), a mask (x60), a headband (x80), scrolls (x100) and the top-paying flaming swords at x200 for a full line of five. With both-ways pays, those premiums can stack up nicely.
The Wild substitutes for all paying symbols, and the fox Scatter is what you need to trigger free spins. During my session, Wilds appeared frequently enough during the base game, especially once the fox decided to get involved and start smashing symbols around on the reels.

How Flaming Fox Bonus Rounds Work
Two main features here. The first is the Flaming Features, which trigger randomly in the base game when the meditating fox leaps into action. He can smash entire reels, replacing them with flaming reels that only contain high-value symbols or Wilds. He can also target individual symbols and transform them into Wilds. During my testing, these interventions came fairly regularly and kept the base game from feeling flat.
The Free Spins round needs three fox Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. You get a random number of spins - there is no fixed amount, which keeps it unpredictable. The Flaming Features can also fire during free spins, and any Wilds they create stay locked in place until the round ends. If an Extra Spins symbol appears, you get additional spins on top.
Triggering the free spins took me a while during my session - this is a high volatility game, so patience is required. But when it finally hit, having those locked Wilds build up across multiple spins made it the most rewarding part of the entire playthrough.
Flaming Fox RTP, Volatility and Max Win
Flaming Fox has an RTP of 95.06%, which sits a touch below the current average but is not unusual for a Red Tiger title of this vintage. Volatility is rated high, and that matched my experience - long stretches without much, then a decent cluster of wins when the fox features kicked in. Max win potential is x3,457.50 your stake, so there is real upside if you catch the right sequence of locked Wilds during free spins.

Final Verdict on Flaming Fox
Flaming Fox holds up well despite being a few years old now. The graphics are sharp, the sound pulls you in, and the Flaming Features add genuine excitement to the base game. It could do with an extra bonus game layer to compete with newer releases, but the locked Wilds mechanic during free spins gives it enough punch. If you enjoy high volatility oriental-themed slots and do not mind an RTP just under the 96% mark, this one is worth a proper session.
