Playing Fortunium - First Impressions

I loaded up Fortunium expecting a standard steampunk reskin, but Stormcraft Studios have done something genuinely different here. The 5x5 grid with 40 paylines feels spacious, and the retro-futuristic city backdrop is packed with detail. Bets run from 0.10 up to 250 per spin, so it suits most bankrolls. The controls sit neatly to the side of the reels, keeping things clean on mobile and desktop alike.

What struck me first was the atmosphere. There is an enchanting soundtrack humming away behind each spin, and it ramps up when you hit something decent. The animations on wins feel polished rather than cheap, and the whole thing runs smoothly in HTML5. For a game released back in June 2018, it still holds up well against newer titles.

Fortunium Symbols and Paytable

The two lead characters, Maximillian and Victoria, sit at the top of the paytable paying up to 8x your total bet for five of a kind. Both can appear stacked five high, which is where the bigger base game hits come from. Below them is a mechanical treasure chest at 6x, a steampunk airship at 5x, and a plasma gun at 4x.

Low-value symbols are coloured playing card suits - blue clubs, green diamonds, orange hearts and red spades - paying between 1.2x and 2x for a full line of five. All regular symbols can appear double stacked. The golden W wild substitutes for everything except the scatter, and five wilds on a line deliver a tidy 20x payout. The glowing green scatter pays from any position when you land two or more.

How Fortunium Bonus Rounds Work

Three or more scatters anywhere on the reels trigger 10 free spins. The number of scatters you land determines how many Mystery Reels you get on each free spin - three scatters give you one Mystery Reel, four give you two, and five scatters hand you three. Those Mystery Reels contain only Mystery Symbols, so in theory you could end up with three fully wild reels on every single free spin. Each scatter landing during the round adds an extra spin.

In my sessions, triggering the free spins with four or five scatters was rare but rewarding. Three scatters came along a handful of times across a couple of hours, and the single Mystery Reel still produced some solid sequences. The max win per spin during free spins is 800x your stake.

Outside of free spins, the Mystery Symbol feature appears in the base game too. Stacks of mystery symbols land on any spin and transform into a randomly chosen symbol - could be low, high, or wild. Then there is the Win Booster tab on the left side of the reels. Click it and pay an extra 50% on your stake, and the mystery symbols will only transform into high-value symbols or wilds. I found the Win Booster noticeably improved my hit rate on decent payouts, though it eats through your balance faster.

Fortunium RTP, Volatility and Max Win

The RTP sits at 96.47%, which is just a touch above the industry average. Volatility is rated medium, and that felt accurate during my play. Wins came at a reasonable frequency without long barren stretches, but nothing that would make a high-roller's pulse race. The maximum win is capped at 200,000 in currency, which is modest by today's standards but achievable through stacked wilds and the Mystery Reel mechanic.

Is Fortunium Worth Playing - Final Thoughts

As Stormcraft Studios' debut slot, Fortunium set a strong foundation. The steampunk theme is executed with real craft, and the Win Booster adds a layer of player choice you do not always get. The free spins round carries genuine potential when you land four or five scatters, even if the max payout cap feels a bit low compared to more recent releases. For UK players after a medium-volatility game with a distinctive look and solid mechanics, it is still well worth a session.
