What to Expect from Thunderstruck II Mega Moolah

Thunderstruck II Mega Moolah is essentially the beloved Thunderstruck II slot from Microgaming, rebuilt with the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot network bolted on. If you have played the original, you will feel right at home here. The Norse mythology theme remains intact, with gods like Thor, Odin, Loki and Valkyrie all making a return across 5 reels and 3 rows.

The slot uses 243 ways to win rather than traditional paylines, so you just need matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the left. Bets range from 0.30 up to 24 per spin. It works on desktop, tablet and mobile without any issues. The big selling point, of course, is the chance to land a progressive jackpot worth at least one million pounds on top of everything the original game already offered.

Thunderstruck II Mega Moolah RTP, Volatility and Max Win

The RTP sits at 92.01%, which is noticeably lower than the 96.65% you get on the original Thunderstruck II. That drop is standard for any slot connected to the Mega Moolah jackpot network, because a portion of every bet goes into feeding those progressive prize pools. It is worth being aware of this if you are comparing the two versions side by side.

Volatility is rated as medium, which is actually the same as the original. That might surprise you given the enormous jackpot potential, but the jackpots trigger so rarely that they do not meaningfully shift the overall volatility rating. Day to day, the game plays in a fairly balanced way with a reasonable mix of smaller and mid-sized wins.

Outside of the progressive jackpots, the maximum win is 8,000x your stake. You can hit that through the Wild Storm feature if all five reels turn wild. That is a strong top payout even before you factor in the life-changing jackpot prizes sitting on top.

Symbols and Paytable in Thunderstruck II Mega Moolah

The lower-paying symbols are the usual card royals: 9, 10, J, Q, K and A. These pay between 0.17x and 0.30x your stake for three of a kind, rising to 3.3x to 5x for five across the reels. They fill in the gaps between bigger hits but will not set the world alight on their own.

The premium symbols are where things get interesting. A viking longship, Asgard, Valkyrie, Loki, Odin and Thor pay between 8.33x and 16.67x your stake for five of a kind. The game logo acts as the Wild, substituting for all regular pay symbols, and it pays 33.33x for five on a line. Crucially, any win involving the Wild gets a 2x multiplier applied to it. The Scatter is Thor's Hammer, which triggers the bonus round and also pays on its own, up to 200x your stake for landing five anywhere on the grid.

Thunderstruck II Mega Moolah Bonus Features Explained

The Wild Storm feature can strike at random during any base game spin. Thor hits the reels with lightning, turning between one and five reels completely wild. If all five reels go wild, you land the full 8,000x maximum win right there. Free spins cannot trigger during a Wild Storm, but the payout potential is enormous.

Land three or more Thor's Hammer scatters and you enter the Great Hall of Spins. This is not just one free spins round but four separate ones, each themed around a different Norse god. Only the Valkyrie feature is available from the start. You need to trigger the bonus 5 times to unlock Loki, 10 times for Odin, and 15 times for Thor. It rewards loyal play, though it does mean newer players will only see the first option for a while.

Valkyrie gives 10 free spins with a 5x multiplier. Loki awards 15 spins with a wild magic symbol on reel 3 that transforms random symbols into wilds. Odin offers 20 spins where raven symbols turn into 2x or 3x multiplier wilds, or 6x if both ravens appear. Thor delivers 25 free spins with Rolling Reels, where winning symbols are removed and replaced, with a multiplier climbing up to 5x on consecutive cascading wins.

Mega Moolah Jackpot in Thunderstruck II Mega Moolah

The Mega Moolah jackpot feature can trigger on any spin at random. When it does, you are taken to a bonus wheel and guaranteed to win one of four progressive jackpots. Higher bets give you a better chance of triggering the wheel, so playing at minimum stake means your odds of hitting the big one are lower. If the jackpot and free spins trigger at the same time, the jackpot is played first.

The four jackpots have the following seed values: Mini starts at 10 pounds, Minor at 100 pounds, Major at 10,000 pounds, and the Mega Jackpot starts at 1,000,000 pounds. The Mega drops roughly every eight weeks on average, with an average payout around 5.98 million pounds. The largest recorded Mega Moolah win reached over 20 million pounds, while the smallest Mega Jackpot recorded was just over one million.

Is Thunderstruck II Mega Moolah Worth Playing?

Whether you should play Thunderstruck II Mega Moolah or stick with the original Thunderstruck II really comes down to one question: how much does the jackpot matter to you? The lower RTP of 92.01% means more of your bankroll is effectively going towards funding those progressive pools. Over long sessions, you will feel that difference compared to the 96.65% original.

That said, the core game remains excellent. The graphics hold up well despite the original being over a decade old, the four unlockable free spins rounds give genuine depth, and the Wild Storm feature adds proper excitement to the base game. If you fancy the same Norse mythology action with the added thrill of a potentially life-changing jackpot, this version makes a strong case for itself. Just go in knowing what the trade-off is.
